John Bethke grew up on the farm where these
gardens for rent are growing. He is the son of a
vegetable farmer, who grew vegetables on this very same farm. John started working in the fields
when he was old enough to walk. (He wasn’t very productive back then!) He learned how to grow
vegetables from his father. He also has read a number of books and publications about growing
Johns years of experience on the farm is
available to those who rent a garden to give them guided wisdom in growing a vegetable garden in
their garden for rent.
John went to college at the University of
Michigan and Grand Valley State University. He studied biology, and psychology. He then got involved
again on the family farm. In 1978 purchased the family farm from his father. He spent much of his life
growing vegetable for the Grand Haven and Muskegon Farmers Markets, and discontinued the
farmers markets focusing on the family pick your own pumpkins and the greenhouse
